Walk and Talk Therapy
All my life through, the new sights of Nature made me rejoice like a child - Marie Curie
Walk and Talk Therapy offers many benefits. Even gentle exercise can be immensely helpful in enhancing mental as well as physical health, reducing stress and anxiety, increasing concentration, improving sleep and boosting overall mood.
Many of us our spending increasing amounts of time in doors and this trend was accentuated during lockdown. To be outside and in a natural environment can provide a valuable break in our routine, supply a heightened sensory experience and often help put our challenges into better context. Becoming more aware of our surroundings can help relax us and reduce the internal “noise” that we sometimes experience.
Some people feel a little daunted talking about their life whilst looking directly at their therapist, particularly on screen. When walking side by side it can feel easier and more natural to open up. Sometimes moments of quiet reflection can be very valuable during the therapeutic process and being within nature lends itself to this experience. We may even find something in the natural environment which helps provide meaning to the life challenges that you are currently facing.
The walk and talk therapy that I offer is very flexible. You may want to spend the session on a vigorous walk or alternatively you may rather find a bench and sit there in there in the open for our session. For some people walk and talk therapy affords an opportunity to have a similar conversation but in an outdoor setting whilst for others it is also a chance to explore spirituality and deeper meanings. You are very welcome to bring your dog and also to suggest locations other than Knole Park, Sevenoaks.
